Kalpitiya is the perfect place for Kitesurfing; the trade winds, shallow blue lagoon waters or the Indian Ocean waters on the other side of the sand bank and soft sand beaches make this popular water sport easy and enjoyable.
Kite surfing excursions can be tailored to your preference and skill level and can range from short speed riding on flat water to all day trips of wave riding or island hopping to explore the many desolate islands dotted around the lagoon.
The Dream Spot or the Vella is one of the favorite kiting spots which has become famous in recent times. Enjoy a 2.5km bay, at a perfect angle to the wind, creating world class kiting conditions. Off-shore wind gives you kilometers of glassy flat water and so much space!
We travel by safety boat equipped with life jackets from Kalpitiya passing a peaceful landscape which separates the lagoon from the ocean. After one hour of safety boat ride we stop on a small island called the Dream Spot or Vella to setup the kites, then you kite 10km downwind, along sandbars, passing quiet fishing villages- a great time to play around, explore the untouched coastline.
Safety boats will be following behind to help if you have any problems and will watch out for you all day. We also offer advanced lessons at this spot for those of you wanting to progress with new tricks. We provide bottled drinking water, packed lunch on request, safety boats and return transport. Experienced instructors will be watching over you for your safety. We offer overnight camping here as well for continued fun!
